Physical Education
The Healthy Active Living courses are designed to explore the abilities and uses of our complex and intricate bodies as instruments of service to God. Learning is accomplished through guided and progressive participation in team and individual sports, as well as other physical activities.
The health education component is disigned to help studens develop a healthy understanding of who they are in Christ and what their role is within the Christian community.
Grades 9 and 10 courses focus on developing cooperation and community through the development of individual skills and teamwork, as well as self-control and showing respect for other persons while participating in various team sports. They also study the importance of maintaining their bodies as "temples of the Holy Spirit" in the areas of health, including nutrition, body image, sex education, and substance abuse.
The Grade 11 course focuses on lifetime sports including archery, golf, curling and many more. For some of the activities, students are given the opportunity to test their abilities at venues such as the golf course and curling rink.
Each students investigate lifetime diseases, including ones that are common in their own family history, and are challenged to make lifestyle decisions to maintain their health. They are also taught how to better handle stress and become certified in basic first aid and adult CPR.
