Student Services
At QCHS we believe that God calls each student to serve in a unique place in His world to achieve His kingdom purposes. The mission of our guidance and resource departments is to equip students with the wisdom, resources, learning skills, and tools needed to be successful in high school and post secondary education. Student services staff have their radar on to detect the social and spiritual needs of the students. At QCHS, we acknowledge that the whole student is important, not just their academic grades. Any needs that can be met by the staff in the process of teaching and guiding students beyond the academic sphere are gladly addressed, with Christ at the centre of the process and with His will for the student in mind.
Guidance Department
The Guidance Department seeks to help students discern God’s call. As a means to that end, guidance staff are available to conduct interviews with students seeking vocational or personal guidance. The Guidance Staff is able to make a referral for a student who requires personal counselling. Any student may make an appointment with the Guidance Counsellor. Students may choose to complete interest inventories, participate in a job shadow experience, learn basic research skills for post-secondary education, develop a vocational plan that is updated each year, and complete a course in career studies. Information regarding post secondary institutions, scholarships, courses and application forms for colleges is available in the Guidance Office. Senior students are encouraged to participate in college and university days, as well as a Christian University Day each fall. For students gifted in the trades, they are encouraged to consider an apprenticeship program.
Resource Department
Services are available to assist students to discover their unique learning styles, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and find practical solutions to assist them in the classroom and at home. A student who appears to be having learning difficulties may request an assessment. The trained resource staff will conduct the assessment as well as a follow up session with parents and the student. A plan for implementation is drafted and given to the student’s teachers for application in the classroom. A number of parent volunteers work with the resource staff to assist with accommodations such as oral testing and scribing for those with identified learning needs.
