Calendar
Please take note of dates for parent teacher evenings, membership meetings, etc. on the school calendar. If you have misplaced your copy, please call the office for a replacement copy or check out the calendar on our website.
Fire Safety
The fire department will show up without warning to conduct a fire drill sometime in the next month.
Lockdown
The school has a lockdown policy and procedure. We will be conducting a lockdown drill again this year.
Ministry of Education Inspection
Every two years, an inspector from the Ministry of Education spends a day inspecting all procedures and processes, as well as curriculum and teaching methodology. This year is our turn to receive an inspection. We are encouraged by the very positive inspection we had in 2006.
Ontario Secondary School Grade 10 Literacy Test (OSSLT)
The Ministry of Education requires all students to pass the Grade 10 Literacy Test in order to graduate with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Our students will be participating along with all grade 10 students in Ontario on April 2, 2009. Parents of Grade 10 parents will receive more information before the test.
Transportation
On behalf of our bus company, we would like to remind students and parents of the following:
- No large items are permitted on the bus; skateboards, roller blades and ice skates are permitted if they are in backpacks and are completely covered (plastic grocery bags are not acceptable);
- Musical instruments are permitted and must be kept on the student’s lap; ice skates must have skate guards;
- Cell phones and gameboys are permitted as long as they are not a distraction to the driver or other students: bus drivers have the right to disallow them at their discretion;
- Students need to be at their bus pick-up points at least 5 minutes early - bus drivers are instructed not to wait for students who are late - this slows down the whole bus route, and causes buses to be late for school.
The 0809 School Directory will be distributed in the next week. Please go through the cancellation list and verify who you need to call in the event of school being cancelled. Please read page 27 of the directory to familiarize yourself with the phone chain procedures.
